The Australian Defence Force Centre for Mental health (ADFCMH) is a growing centre of excellence within Joint Health Command which provides leadership, best practice and innovation in military mental health. The ADFCMH is located in Sydney and develops and delivers a robust program of mental health consultancy services, training and upskilling of the ADF mental health workforce, and oversees and conducts applied research in relation to clinical interventions in military mental health. 

The position Assistant Director Mental Health Programs (Suicide Prevention) is one of two important and exciting roles currently being sought to join the team at the ADFCMH in Mosman, Sydney.            

The position of Assistant Director Mental Health Programs (Suicide Prevention) is primarily responsible for the translation of research into evidenced based practice through the development, incubation and monitoring of programs and initiatives designed specifically for serving members of the ADF, command and defence health professionals. You will have generalist knowledge of mental health issues and special knowledge of issues relating to early intervention and suicide prevention. You will provide the clinical subject matter expertise for the development and maintenance of early intervention and suicide prevention initiatives.  

As part of a blended team of APS and ADF personnel, you will be expected to be able to translate mental health and relevant research to the military population, contribute to activities which offer strategic benefits and manage the promotional training materials for member and clinical training. You will have a portfolio of programs for which you will have national responsibility in terms of their quality, relevance and technical accuracy as well as some requirements to work with ADF policy experts in the field of early intervention and prevention of suicide. You will initiate and maintain strong relationships with a network of internal and external stakeholders and utilise these to work towards mutually beneficial outcomes.
