About Port Phillip Prison

Port Phillip Prison is a men's maximum security prison that is located in Truganina in Melbourne's west and is able to accommodate approx. 1100 prisoners.  G4S have managed the prison on behalf of Corrections Victoria since it received its first prisoners in 1997 and, in 2017, secured the management of this facility for a further 20 years. Port Phillip Prison is one of Victoria's largest prisons and is focussed on delivering a range of significant health services, programs, education and industries in an environment that encourages positive behaviour and attitudes leading to self-directed rehabilitation.

Your responsibilities in this role

  • Conduct thorough forensic risk and needs assessments of prisoners, with a focus on serious violent offenders
  • Plan, develop and facilitate offender behaviour programs and skill based programs
  • Develop and deliver treatment plans for prisoners with complex needs
  • Maintain detailed case notes, statistics and records
  • Prepare complex clinical reports and summaries of treatment
  • Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders and represent Port Phillip Prison at meetings, studies and briefings
  • Assist with the ongoing training and development of correctional staff with regards to clinical practices within Port Phillip Prison

Your Skills and Experience

  • Registration as a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker or Mental Health Nurse
  • For Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and Mental Health Nurses demonstrate full registration with AHPRA
  • For Social Workers demonstrate eligibility for full registration/recognition with the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Experience working with offenders or a demonstrated understanding of offending behaviour and the criminogenic needs of offenders
  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to negotiate and deal with conflict
  • Excellent written and report writing skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Advanced ability to organise, prioritise and complete tasks in response to changing demands
  • Previous experience working within the correctional sector will be highly regarded however not essential if you can demonstrate a passion for wanting to enhance your knowledge and skills in this environment
