About the Role
Serco Southern Queensland Correctional Centre is a state of the art 300 bed female, high security correctional centre located at Spring Creek near the rural hub of Gatton, Queensland. We are a values-based organisation with the fundamental aim of making our communities safer and ensuring prisoners leave the facility as improved citizens.
As a Psychologist/Program Delivery Officer, you will be responsible for the delivery of correctional (criminogenic) programs in accordance with Queensland Correctional Services governance frameworks and other relevant professional standards, and for other support, counselling and advisory services while ensuring SQCC meets all internal and external accreditation requirements. You will prepare prisoners for program interventions and participate in multi-disciplinary prisoner management processes.
Key accountabilities of the role will include supporting and recruiting participants for correctional (criminogenic) and also other provider-delivered programs, establishing and maintaining relationships with key community organisations to assist in the transition of prisoners to community release and providing guidance and support to case officers on suitable interventions to promote behavioural change. If you have a Provisional Psychologist or Psychologist AHPRA registration, you will have risk assessment and other risk-related assessment, liaison and intervention roles in addition to program delivery.
Skills & Experience
You may currently work in a similar field or be looking for a change in career. Formal qualifications in psychology are mandatory. You need to be able to communicate clearly in English (written and verbal), have strong listening, reasoning and negotiation skills, ability to build and maintain successful relationships, exercise sound judgement and competent in the use of computers and technology.
This is a challenging environment where no two days are the same. As such the ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge and competence in delivering programmes/interventions to prisoners with highly effective interpersonal skills in teamwork and group work situations. Personal presence and impact – visible and active presence with strong interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to rehabilitation of prisoners are vital to this position.
