The Pain Management Unit (PMU) is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Anaesthetists, Rehabilitation Physicians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists (including Clinical and Health Psychologists), Physiotherapists, Registered Nurses and administrative staff.  The PMU currently employs several Psychologists who conduct assessments, design and implement intervention programs for individuals with pain and/or their families and caregivers.  Psychological services are provided to both inpatients and outpatients, and may be provided as individual or group therapy.

Responsibilities of the role include service planning, provision and evaluation, supervision, as well as research and quality activities.  Provides consultancy services to a range of other internal and external professional bodies and participates in training for post-graduate students (psychology, medical and physiotherapy).  The position will also be responsible for working with senior PMU staff to implement and review the service delivery changes.  May also be called upon to support or advise other CALHN Psychologists, as required.

Must hold an appropriate degree (Master’s Degree in Clinical or Health Psychology) or equivalent qualification recognised by the PsyBA. Must hold general registration with the PsyBA, and be endorsed in Clinical and/or Health Psychology area of practice. Must hold board-approved supervisor status with the PsyBA at all levels of supervision. Membership, or eligibility for membership, of the Australian Psychological Society, including the Colleges of Clinical Psychologists or Health Psychologists.
