About the Role

The Professional Advisor works with colleagues in the Professional Advisory Service to provide accurate and comprehensive telephone and email advice to APS members in response to a broad range of professional and practice issues, including, but not limited to:

  • Ethical dilemmas
  • Complex client issues (not supervision)
  • Practice management concerns
  • Legislative matters, e.g., privacy legislation, mandatory reporting
  • Regulatory matters, including requirements of third parties, such as Medicare
  • Enquiries from other professionals relating to psychology ethics and services.

The Professional Advisor contributes to the development of professional practice information, resources, and other documents relevant to the practice of psychology. The Professional Advisor will maintain awareness and currency of issues and developments relevant to psychology and the APS.

 

We work in a hybrid model. Most team members currently work from home, with the option to work in our Melbourne CBD office when it suits them, or as the business requires (ie for large planning meetings). This position is part time at 0.6FTE (3 days a week). Further to this, we are happy to accept applications from anywhere in Australia as working remotely can be arranged.

 

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

1.     General registration with the Psychology Board of Australia

2.     Significant experience as a practicing psychologist

3.     Broad experience across different sectors, such as private and public

4.     Effective communication skills and ability to quickly establish rapport

5.     High level writing skills

6.     Service focus.

 

Desirable

1.     Sound knowledge of the APS Code of Ethics and ethical guidelines.

2.     Sound understanding of ethical issues relating to psychological practice and ways of negotiating these.

3.     Understanding and knowledge of practice and business issues affecting psychologists including those relating to relevant legislation
