Korero mo te turanga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting an Associate Professor of Psychological Practice. The role will be responsible for developing professional health psychology and training students to work as Psychologists in health fields.

Key responsibilities:

  • Take a leading role in the development of professional practice within the new Postgraduate Diploma in Health Psychology Practice in the School of Health
  • Teach psychological practice and related topics in ways that enhance collaboration with other Schools and Faculties within the university and with external stakeholders, including registered psychologists
  • Develop relationships with external stakeholders and take the lead in setting up and supporting 1500-hour internships in health psychology practice
  • Conducting high-quality research in the area of health and wellbeing, attracting postgraduate students, collaborating with other researchers at Victoria University and elsewhere, and seeking external research
  • Contribute to achieving equity through a commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi and applying Matauranga Maori to learning and research
  • Contribute to the development of the School's wider academic and strategic direction

O pumanawa - About you

The preferred applicant will have experience working as a registered psychologist as well as academic teaching experience. They will have the ability to develop and lead a professional programme in psychology, focused on health psychology. They will be a collegial and collaborative team member who will contribute positively to the health psychology team, the broader multidisciplinary School of Health, and other professional psychology programmes in the University.

Key requirements:

  • A completed PhD or professional doctorate in a relevant field (e.g. Doctor of Health Psychology, Doctor of Clinical Psychology) or other relevant qualifications commensurate with the seniority of the role
  • Postgraduate qualification in an applied area of Psychology
  • Experience working in an applied professional psychology setting
  • A well-established research record and agenda
  • Demonstrated evidence of academic leadership ability
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful tertiary teaching
  • Understanding of the role of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in research and teaching

The School of Health launched the Bachelor of Health in 2018, with major subjects in Health Psychology; Population Health, Policy and Service Delivery; Health Promotion; and Health Informatics. The Master of Health began in 2019 and in 2021 we launched the new Master of Health Psychology programme.
