About the role

The Allied Health Clinician - Psychologist will provide high quality clinical assessments, structured therapeutic interventions, expert consultation and specialist services to clients with mild, moderate or severe and complex mental ill health. This role will work within an integrated team of AOD and mental health providers to deliver meaningful evidence based, time limited psychological therapies adjusted to be responsive to the needs of clients in a collaborative care arrangement. 

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate Allied Health Clinician - Psychologist for a Fixed Term, Full Time (part time optional) opportunity to work remotely within our Step Thru Care service in the Warrnambool or Portland area. With sheltered beaches, gorgeous parks and gardens, whale watching, diverse culture heritage and prominent food and wine scene, the role is ideal for a candidate who is looking to relocate along Victoria’s world-famous Great Ocean Road. You will use your expertise to deliver comprehensive transdisciplinary clinical services and meaningful evidence-based, time limited psychological therapies within a stepped care framework responsive to meet the needs of clients experiencing mental ill health, alcohol and other druf (AOD) and dual disability challenges to achieve their recovery goals and improve wellbeing. 

This role will function within a Regional Care Partnership, known as Step Thru care, which is a partnership arrangement with 4 other agencies - WRAD Health, Brophy Family and Youth Inc, Portland District Health and Gen U, and provides psychosocial support and services to young people and adults with mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD) and dual disability challenges. Mind Australia is the lead agency in this partnership. Step Thru care is funded through the Western Victoria Primary health network (WVPHN).

 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive and flexible therapeutic support service to clients, families and carers including an advanced level of assessment, short to high intensity interventions, brief intervention and treatment planning in accordance with professional, ethical and National Standards utilising significant clinical experience.
  • Provide high level evidence-based mental health interventions, allied health assessments, therapies, short-term interventions and high intensity mental health treatment to meet client needs.
  • Work closely with a person’s primary care provider and other key stakeholders/ agencies to coordinate the care a client is receiving from multiple providers inclusive of the structured psychological interventions being provided by Mind.
  • Provide counselling and assessment services to a wide range of clients including children, families and those referred for suicide prevention intervention.
  • Contribute to the establishment and attainment of client goals through evidence based intervention including recommendation and onward referrals as appropriate.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary degree qualifications in Psychology or other health related field and hold current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or equivalent accreditation and/or able to hold Mental Health Accreditation.
  • Expertise in working with clients with mental health issues, AOD and dual disability issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers is desirable.
  • Proven experience in Community Services, Mental Health, Social Welfare, Housing, Healthcare or Disability sectors is required.
  • Capability to implement therapeutic, recovery-oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
  • Ability to plan, implement and prioritise to meet customer service delivery requirements.
