Job Overview
Chief Health Officer Division is seeking an experienced clinical psychologist or registered psychologist with appropriate additional experience and training, with an interest in veterans’ health. The Senior Mental Health Adviser plays a critical role in ensuring the appropriate use of clinical evidence to support veterans and their families to access healthcare services within their entitlements. You will have the opportunity to challenge current business practices and innovate in order to improve the efficiency of our processes and enhance our services to clients, which will be delivered in a client centric manner.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years’ experience as a practicing psychologist and demonstrated experience in leading a small team. You need to possess excellent leadership and demonstrated ability to cultivate a high performing team, excellent organisational skills, ability to drive clinical governance, quality improvement and change management within the team, ability to manage competing priorities with fluctuating workloads, and demonstrated ability to support and operationalise strategic goals. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop, analyse, interpret and provide high level strategic advice on mental health research and policy.

Eligibility
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
- The successful candidate will be required obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance.
Mandatory Requirements & Experience
- Current unrestricted registration as a Clinical Psychologist with AHPRA or unrestricted registration as a psychologist with AHPRA with additional relevant experience and training.
- Significant (at least 5 years) clinical experience across health areas of specific interest to DVA (e.g., general mental health, trauma, drug and alcohol).
- Recent independent clinical practice in a relevant field.

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.
A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
