The Role

Air Force Psychology provides organisational psychology services to Air Force elements in local regions and around Australia. The senior psychologist leads a small team of psychologists and administration staff, and is part of Air Force Psychology, which comprises six sections across Australia. 

Organisational psychology services include: assessment and interventions in relation to individual workplace performance, conduct and training issues; developing and delivering psycho-educational training to optimise performance and well-being; teams-based assessments and interventions; individual assessments of suitability for selection for a variety of Air Force roles; participation in personnel selection boards; and participation in projects related to future capabilities. 

The position available is ideally located either at RAAF Amberley or RAAF Wagga and requires a degree of in-office work. However, flexible arrangements are possible and interested applicants from other locations are encouraged to email the contact officer to discuss the opportunity. Additional opportunities in other locations may become available and a merit list will be created for future consideration. Travel opportunities, flexible routines, and support for Continuous Professional Development (CPD), including endorsement supervision, is available.

About our Team
Air Force Psychology provides organisational psychology services to support Air Force to achieve its strategic objectives. We focus on supporting leaders at all levels to build effective teams and optimise selection and training systems. We are also involved in developing and implementing strategies to improve personnel performance and well-being in a wide variety of roles including aircrew, technical, administrative, intelligence and various other specialist tasks. 

Air Force Psychology comprises sections based in Adelaide (SA), Sale (VIC), Newcastle (NSW), Wagga Wagga (NSW), Brisbane (QLD), and Canberra (ACT). Our team comprises full and part-time Public Servants and uniformed members. We are a professionally supportive team, with regular CPD opportunities and virtual meetings despite our geographical distribution.

Our teams in Amberley and Wagga Wagga are highly regarded, providing services to a variety of units. The opportunity exists to be creative and develop bespoke, needs driven solutions to unique problems, all within a safe peer supported environment.

Our Ideal Candidate
Candidates will hold general registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and preferably have experience leading small teams and providing organisational psychology services. 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate psychology information effectively to leaders at all levels and HR experts.

·         Excellent liaison skills, including the ability to cooperate, consult and build networks with customers and other service providers.

·         The ability to lead and work effectively in a small team, and as part of a larger geographically dispersed organisation.

·         Experience providing performance-related assessments and interventions to individuals and teams in high-pressure work environments, such as aviation, Defence, emergency services or other fields.

·         Respect for and a desire to support Australian Defence Force personnel in performing their roles to protect the safety and security of Australia, its people and its interests.
