About the Role

Our Alcohol and Other Drug Counsellors support prisoners to access prison-based drug and alcohol programs and services to support their recovery. The role has a particular focus on harm minimisation and facilitating programs and services that support increased awareness of harm reduction strategies both in custody and post-release. This role will see you also facilitating group-based programs that increase self-efficacy through the development of effective coping strategies and relapse prevention planning.

About Your Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A health, social or behavioral science undergraduate degree, a Certificate IV in AOD, Diploma in AOD, or extensive AOD experience
  • Experience working in the AOD sector in either screening and assessment, case work, or program delivery
  • A desire to make a difference to the lives of people who may experience disadvantage, have challenging behaviours and complex needs
  • Experience working collaboratively with others in a complex environment
  • Ability to embrace change and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills
  • Empathy and cultural awareness
  • Resilience
