ABOUT US
Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a feminist, grassroots organisation that supports women and families in crisis and advocates for social change in the community. We work on the lands of the Gadigal, Wangal and Dharug people of the Eora Nation.
 
Every night, we support 200 women and children impacted by homelessness, domestic violence, and systemic disadvantage. Equally we seek to address the underlying causes of gender-based violence through primary prevention activities with communities and private and public entities that want to be a part of the global movement to end gender-based violence in a generation.
 
THE ROLE
The Helping Children Heal (HCH) program is a pilot project funded by DSS. The project provides trauma-informed recovery services to children (aged 6-12 years) and their families, who have been exposed to domestic or family violence. The program aims to improve social, emotional, and educational outcomes for children, and restore and strengthen mother and child relationships.
 
The Child and Young Person (CYP) Clinical Psychologist will use their relevant skills and qualifications to work with women and children who are engaged with the HCH project, seeking to improve social, emotional, and educational outcomes for children who have experienced domestic and family violence.
 
There are no billable hours for this role.
 
The role is based at our Burwood Community Hub, with some travel to other WAGEC sites and outreach locations. This is a full-time role, with flexibility to consider a part-time (4 days per week) for the right candidate. Please see the Position Description for ideal hours.
 
The core responsibilities of this role are:
  • Provide tailored support to families to improve social, emotional, and educational outcomes for children
  • Assess family situations and respond to child safety concerns
  • Delivery of Community and Learning Hub activities
  • Leadership in the team
 
ABOUT YOU
  • You’ll be a qualified Psychologist with at least 3 years' experience working with children and/or young people who have complex needs
  • You’re experienced in conducting assessments, particularly to support access to NDIS and school-based assistance
  • You have high-level group facilitation skills and you’re able to use a strengths-based approach to work with children and adults who’ve experienced complex trauma
  • You’ll have comprehensive knowledge of child development, and the diverse needs and learning challenges that children may experience.
  • We’d love to hear from people who are multi-lingual and who may have great community connections.
