The Australian Psychological Society (APS) is the national assessing authority in Australia for the assessment of international academic qualifications in psychology.
We deliver high quality assessment services to ensure excellence and trust in the psychology profession.
We assess the level at which an applicant’s qualifications are comparable to an Australian sequence of study in psychology. This entails comparing international qualifications against the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) standards.
About the Role
We are recruiting for parental leave cover - 12 month fixed term at 0.8FTE (4 days per week).
The Assessor is responsible for reviewing applications for assessment of overseas qualifications in psychology. The Assessor works collaboratively with the team to assess, moderate/ peer review and provide advice to applicants, while also working closely with the Assessments Team Leader in quality improvement and enhancement processes surrounding assessments.
The Assessor position involves:
- Maintaining and ensuring timely and accurate processing of the Assessment of Psychology Qualifications and Skilled Employment History applications
- Identify process improvement and efficiencies through implementation of new technologies, tools or methods
- Provide advice to the Member Services Team in relation to membership applications which have overseas psychology qualifications or research only qualifications.
- Provide comprehensive and accurate information to applicants who have concerns about their assessment or assessment outcome.
- Participate in meetings of the Assessments Committee, to consider matters such as applications for the Assessment of Psychology Qualifications and Skilled Employment History, reassessments and appeals, as required.
- Liaise and build strong relationships with the Membership, Professional Development and Assessment teams and other relevant APS staff
- Connect, engage with and consult generally with external members of assessing authorities in order to keep up to date with knowledge in the assessment domain
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of migration and assessing authority policies and procedures and attend related training and information sessions, where necessary
This is a part-time, fixed-term position open to applicants based anywhere in Australia.
We work in a remote-hybrid model. Most team members currently work from home, with the option to work in our Melbourne CBD office when it suits them, or as the business requires (i.e. for large planning meetings).

Key selection criteria
Essential
- APAC accredited degree in psychology
- Ability to critically evaluate a range of evidence to aid in case formulation and evaluation
- Strong attention to detail, thoroughness and accuracy in all aspects of work
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong organisational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a team environment
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to manage demanding stakeholders
Desirable
- Relevant work experience in case formulation and evaluation
- Experience in Professional psychology training roles
- Experience working with Government Departments or the university sector
- Understanding of the APAC accredited pathways of study
