The Opportunity
We’re looking for a
passionate and experienced Senior Mental Health Clinician to join our Acute
Care Team at Townsville University Hospital. In this vital role, you’ll provide
triage, assessment, and consultation liaison for individuals referred by the
Emergency Department, acting as the key point of entry for mental health
consumers into the Mental Health Service Group (MHSG) outside of regular
business hours. While primarily based in the Emergency Department, you’ll also
have the opportunity to work across hospital and community settings, ensuring
seamless, person-centred care. This is a dynamic, fast-paced position operating
on a rotating roster, supporting 24/7 mental health service delivery to
consumers referred by the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities
- Deliver high-level, independent clinical
services in line with the Crisis Support Service Model of Service.
- Provide sensitive, trauma-informed care to
individuals experiencing acute stress, suicidality, or mental health
crisis.
- Lead and advocate for the mental health needs
of consumers, carers, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and
community-based services to ensure continuity of care.
- Apply expert clinical judgement and contribute
to the development of best-practice protocols.
- Supervise and mentor staff, students,
volunteers and peer workers, supporting a culture of learning and safety.
- Drive quality improvement and research
initiatives to enhance service delivery.

What You’ll Need
- Four-year
Psychology degree (Honours or Graduate Diploma) and registration with
AHPRA.
- Ability
to work flexibly across hospital and community settings, including a
rotating roster.
- Strong
communication, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- A
collaborative approach to working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment
to trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and culturally safe care.
