Clinical Psychology Registrar Program 2026

About us:

The Birchtree Centre was founded by Dr Sophie Reid and Jace Cannon-Brookes in 2015 and?is now a collective of over 50 trauma-specialist clinicians across Forest Lodge and Pymble, offering individual therapy, group therapy and evidence-based adjunct therapies in the treatment of complex trauma. Birchtree Centre is a community of like-minded private practitioners who believe in working together by sharing knowledge and resources to achieve the best outcomes for clients.

Since its inception, Birchtree has worked to raise the standard of mental health care in Australia by shaping the next generation of trauma-informed specialists through our Clinical Registrar Program. Birchtree also has a Charitable Foundation dedicated to providing equitable access to vulnerable communities, and has worked extensively with regional NSW. Birchtree is building a number of exciting projects that registrars may be able to participate in.

About the program:

Birchtree Centre’s Clinical Registrar Program is offered at our Pymble Centre only (parking included), 2 days a week, with one being a Saturday. It is a contractor position with a competitive compensation rate and reduced room rent, including 4 weeks rent-free when you start. At Birchtree we create a cohort of Registrars who work together and support each other as a group both short and long-term, therefore there is more than one Registrar position available.

All referrals will be provided by the Centre, and your caseload will be built up gradually under the recommendation of your supervisor to allow you to settle in at your own speed. This program is for professionals who are interested in expanding their knowledge and confidence in the treatment of complex trauma, and in being a part of the collective wisdom that is our Birchtree community.

Supervision:

During the Registrar Program, all Registrars will be supervised at least fortnightly on-site by one of the Co-Directors of Birchtree Centre: Dr Sophie Reid or Jace Cannon-Brookes, with capacity for more supervision as needed. There is also an opportunity to attend peer group supervision with the other Clinical Psychology Registrars and fellow Birchtree clinicians.

Professional Development:

Registrars will be provided free professional development via Birchtree's Masterclasses and Trainings throughout the year, including a two-day 'Understanding the Long Limbs of Trauma' workshop presented by Jace Cannon-Brookes and Dr Sophie Reid, all of which can be counted towards Continued Professional Development.

Birchtree's clinicians have a huge range of experience and knowledge from multiple sectors and are always keen to work collaboratively and assist colleagues with advice and recommendations to better serve their clients. As such, there will be opportunities throughout the year to network with colleagues at training days and social get-togethers, and you will be given access to Birchtree’s collaborative online library, referral database and other intranet resources.

There are also opportunities for Registrars to assist with the Workshops and to lead Groups offered in the twelve months from commencing their position.
