College Psychologist R-12

Mercedes College is seeking a passionate and experienced College Psychologist (R–12) to join our dedicated Wellbeing team. This pivotal role supports student wellbeing across all year levels, contributing to positive learning outcomes and a thriving school community.

The Psychologist will work collaboratively with staff, families, and the wider College community to design and deliver proactive, evidence-based wellbeing initiatives aligned with the Mercedes College Strategic Plan and Catholic Education SA frameworks. This role is central to shaping a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing, responding to the evolving social and emotional needs of students and young people while supporting the future direction of student care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing individual counselling, assessments, and psychological support for students R–12.
  • Leading and supporting the development of wellbeing initiatives and programs.
  • Advising staff on best practice in supporting student wellbeing and social-emotional development.
  • Collaborating with staff to inform and support the implementation of Personalised Plans for Learning (PPLs).
  • Coordinating with external providers for integrated support and care.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records in line with professional and legal obligations.

This is a fixed-term position working 37.5 hours per week over 42–46 weeks per year (negotiable), commencing as soon as possible and concluding on 11 December 2026.

About You

You are a dedicated, compassionate, and skilled psychologist with a passion for supporting students and young people in their development. You are an excellent communicator, a collaborative team player, and someone who values a holistic and faith-informed approach to education.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology.
  • Full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Extensive experience supporting children and adolescents ideally within an educational setting.
  • Sound understanding of child protection legislation and mental health best practices.
  • Proven leadership and ability to influence school-wide wellbeing strategies.
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to build trust across the school community.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organisational skills.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to manage sensitive situations.
  • Experience implementing evidence-based wellbeing and mental health initiatives.
  • A commitment to the Catholic ethos of Mercedes College.
