Community Corrections
Alice Springs, Northern Territory
One ongoing full time vacancy available

About the Opportunity

Are you a psychologist or social worker looking for a diverse and meaningful role within a supportive and dynamic team? This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to safer communities while developing your professional practice across the Northern Territory.

The Practice Leader is part of a team of five clinicians who work collaboratively with probation and parole officers to enhance practice related to the rehabilitation and management of domestic, family and sexual violence offenders. You will play a key role in strengthening Community Corrections’ capability, resilience and wellbeing, and supporting evidence-based offender management in community settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work alongside probation and parole officers to support practice reforms related to domestic, family and sexual violence offenders.
  • Deliver staff resilience and wellbeing initiatives to strengthen recruitment, training, retention and professional capability across Community Corrections.
  • Provide specialist advice, support and training to officers managing complex and high-risk caseloads.
  • Work directly with people in the justice system - and their families - in community-based settings to support rehabilitation and risk management.
  • Contribute to developing clinical processes, defining administrative frameworks, and reducing unnecessary red tape.

Enjoy a wide range of benefits including:

  • Competitive salary package.
  • Relocation assistance options negotiable
  • Six weeks annual leave.
  • Working with an established team.
  • Career development opportunities.
  • Opportunities for study assistance for approved tertiary education.
  • Opportunity to work and travel to remote communities
  • Comprehensive induction program and training modules
  • Access to innovative resources and educational tools

Role Requirements

The Practice Leader role suits psychologists or social workers with clinical, organisational or justice related interests. While we will prioritise applicants with specialist forensic or clinical experience, this is not essential. We strongly encourage applications from clinicians who bring transferable skills such as:

  • Risk assessment and safety planning
  • Experience working with people who use violence
  • Statutory or mandated practice (e.g., child protection, corrections, family violence, mental health)
  • Expertise in community based offender management
  • Clinical assessment, formulation and intervention with diverse client groups

To be successful, you must hold tertiary qualifications in psychology or social work and be eligible for unconditional registration with AHPRA or the AASW.

We recognise that many capable people hesitate to apply for roles unless they meet every listed requirement. If this role interests you but you are unsure whether you meet all of the essential criteria, we encourage you to apply. Research shows that women and people from marginalised groups may experience a confidence gap and underestimate their suitability, even when they have the skills, values and capability to thrive. While we are flexible regarding the breadth of professional experience applicants bring, a qualification in psychology or social work - and eligibility for unconditional registration - is mandatory. If the purpose of the role resonates with you and your experience aligns with the work, we would welcome your application.
