About the Role
 
The counselling position is responsible for the provision of a professional counselling service to students and staff and the UTS community regarding a broad range of personal, academic, and psychosocial issues. 

The counsellor will often be the first point of contact for students who are distressed or behaving in a concerning way.  
The counsellor will provide individual, couple and group counselling interventions.  The counsellor may need to refer students for specialized treatment.  Referrals occasionally needs to be made on an emergency basis due to the level of the client’s distress or concerning behavior.

If successful in applying for this role, you will be responsible for:
 
Assessment and diagnosis of psychosocial, academically related, and mental health problems of presenting clients.
Providing individual, couple and group counselling using a range of psychotherapeutic skills and interventions consistent with currently accepted best practice.
Crisis Management
Maintain confidential clinical notes, case data entry, and any reporting as per work plan targets and registration requirements.
Undertake client related research, report writing, and case consultation as required for problem formulation and treatment.
Maintaining consultation and liaison procedures with Faculties; UTS International; other University units; and student representatives.

With examples, please outline in a separate document how you meet the following four (4) key selection criteria points below:
 
1. Demonstrates superior skills in assessing complex client presentations, liaising between different areas of the organisation, and organising ongoing care for clients.
2. Demonstrates ability to assess a range of psycho-social problems / disorders and provides appropriate and effective interventions using effective counselling approaches.
3. Experience in managing risk and crisis situations.
4. Registration as a Psychologist or a Mental Health Social Worker in NSW.

This position is part time (FTE 0.4), until 31 December 2026. The hours Tuesday and Friday, 9am-5pm, on campus (not negotiable). 

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $120,827 - $137,609 pa (HEW 8) (pro-rata)
 
This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

We have a fixed-term 2-days per week (0.4 FTE) available until 31 December 2026.  We require staff to fill Tuesday and Friday, working from the office only.
