Family Violence Worker - Adult, Children and Young Persons Program

Family Violence Counselling and Support Service (FVCSS) is seeking an experienced and committed counselling professional to join our team in North West Tasmania. This position is based in Burnie and will commence as soon as possible, aligning with the opening of the North West Arch in February 2026.

Within Arch, FVCSS provides support to those who have experienced sexual harm/ sexual violence in the context of family violence. FVCSS provide support to individuals via the provision of information, support, brief counselling, psychosocial education, safety planning and limited practical supports. FVCSS can refer individuals for legal services, ongoing case management, court support, other police units, long term counselling and services that address other support needs.

 Key Accountabilities:

  • Exercising professional judgement in the provision of safe, effective and efficient services and work in collaboration with Arch Centres as per MDC Protocol under the general direction of the Team Leader/Statewide Manager or Service Lead. Regular professional supervision and performance reviews will be provided.
  • Promoting the principles of workplace diversity and exercising reasonable care in the performance of duties consistent with the relevant Work Health and Safety legislation.
  • Working in accordance with the Family Violence Act 2004, Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1997 and other relevant legislation.

Your Role: 

  • Assist adults, children and young people to recover from their experience of family violence through the provision of information, assessment, phase 1 counselling, referrals, and other appropriate forms of therapeutic intervention.
  • Provide information and support, referral and advice to clients and other service providers. 
  • Assess and monitor the ongoing risk and safety needs of adults, children and young people affected by family violence. 
  • Identify, develop, provide services required to meet the needs of adults, children and young people affected by family violence. 
  • Liaise with other relevant program areas to ensure coordination of services, including other Safe at Home service providers.

Key Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of family and sexual violence and its impact on adults, children and young people.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with adults, children and young people with complex needs and apply appropriate models of intervention, including the developmental needs of children and young people.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgement and initiative, work with general supervision and seek guidance as appropriate.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, full time day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of 24 months.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $73,834 to $111,364 per annum + our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No.2 of 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Satisfactory completion of an approved allied health professional tertiary qualification/program of study and registered with the relevant National Board or in the case of self-regulated allied health professions with either full membership or eligible for membership with the relevant professional association
  • Current Working with Children Registration

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
