Step into a role that offers genuine growth, rich clinical variety, and the chance to make a meaningful impact across acute, subacute, and outpatient services in North Queensland’s major tertiary hospital.

Townsville University Hospital is seeking a motivated Clinical Neuropsychology Trainee/Registrar to join our dynamic Psychology Department. This is an excellent opportunity to consolidate your neuropsychology training within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment that values evidence-based practice, collaboration, and professional development.

About the Role

You will provide high-quality Clinical Neuropsychology services across acute, rehabilitation, geriatric, and outpatient settings. Working closely with experienced clinicians, you will develop increasing independence and clinical reasoning across routine to complex presentations. Your work will support patient-centred, integrated care and contribute to assessment, formulation, and intervention planning within multidisciplinary teams.

Supervision & Training

You will receive regular supervision from experienced endorsed Clinical Neuropsychologists and structured support to progress through your registrar program. The department fosters a strong culture of mentoring, reflective practice, and ongoing professional growth, with opportunities to participate in peer supervision, case discussions, and service development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply competent clinical neuropsychology skills aligned with professional, ethical, and evidence-based standards.
  • Provide neuropsychology input to multidisciplinary teams to support integrated, patient-centred care.
  • Participate in clinical research and quality improvement activities.
  • Contribute to supervision and teaching, where eligible, including postgraduate psychology students.
  • Support education and capability building within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, including self-directed learning, workshops, and conferences.
  • Demonstrate growing independence in clinical judgement as supervision requirements decrease.

About You

You bring enthusiasm, curiosity, and a commitment to high-quality neuropsychological practice. You enjoy working collaboratively, value reflective practice, and are keen to develop your skills across a diverse caseload.

What’s On Offer

  • Base salary $79,051 – $116,189 p.a. (HP3)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution and 17.5% recreational leave loading.
  • Generous leave entitlements and salary packaging options to boost take-home pay.
  • Professional development allowance and leave, plus flexible working arrangements.
  • Supportive team culture with opportunities for career growth.
  • Assistance with relocation expenses may be considered.
  • Additional benefits available.

Lifestyle & Location

Townsville offers an affordable coastal lifestyle, a warm climate, and easy access to Magnetic Island and the Great Barrier Reef. The region provides a relaxed, community-focused environment with the professional stimulation of a large tertiary health service.

What You’ll Need

  • A four-year APAC accredited degree in Psychology.
  • Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • A post graduate qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology, or near completion.

Why Join Us

At Townsville University Hospital, you’ll be part of a large, diverse health service that offers opportunities to expand your skills, take on new challenges, and advance your career. You’ll work alongside experienced neuropsychologists, have access to varied clinical presentations, and contribute to meaningful research and service development. This role provides excellent preparation for endorsement and future senior neuropsychology positions within Queensland Health.
