Why JOURNEY?

We understand the urge to play it safe and go with the big providers, we've been there. But large organisations come with their own challenges, challenges that we have worked hard to overcome. At JOURNEY we have built something intentionally different. A team where practitioners can do their best work, feel genuinely supported, and enjoy the kind of balance that allows you to grow not just as a practitioner, but as a person.

Our team consistently tell us they experience:

·       A true team behind them
You're not working alone. You're part of a multidisciplinary team that shares thinking, supports decision-making and works together around each client

·       Work that is genuinely interesting
Complex, nuanced presentations that require real clinical thinking not repetitive, surface-level work

·       Flexibility that actually works
Real autonomy over your schedule, your work environment and how you structure your week

·       Clarity without micromanagement
Strong systems, clear expectations and leadership support with trust in your professional judgement

·       Less red tape, more real work
We've designed our systems to get out of your way so you can focus on what matters

·       A say in what you do
Influence your caseload, your areas of interest and how your role evolves over time

·       A culture that feels good to be part of
Supportive, connected, and genuinely invested in each other's growth and wellbeing

Your New Role

As a Behaviour Support Practitioner at JOURNEY, you'll work within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team supporting teens and adults with complex mental health and dual disability presentations. We’ve developed our own brand of PBS which is highly Psychologically focused. Using your Psychology skills, you'll develop and implement thoughtful, high-quality behaviour support plans, contribute within large and dynamic care teams, and provide guidance to stakeholders while navigating nuanced and sometimes high-risk situations where strong clinical judgement is essential. Depending on your preference, your work can span a variety of settings including community, family homes, supported accommodation and clinic-based.

You'll be supported through regular clinical supervision, mentoring and shared clinical thinking with experienced practitioners, including direct guidance from Advanced and Specialist-level clinicians who are also registered Psychologists, in an environment where complexity is approached together. We also prioritise sustainable practice, with a varied caseload that includes a mix of lower complexity clients and different presentations. With flexibility in how your week is structured, you'll have autonomy over your schedule, backed by strong systems and a team that genuinely supports you.

This role suits someone who

·       Enjoys working with complexity and can hold steady in challenging situations

·       Feels confident contributing within large care teams and advocating for best-practice approaches

·       Has experience working with mental health and/or dual disability presentations

·       Wants to continue refining their clinical thinking, not just deliver plans

·       Values collaboration, reflection, and shared problem-solving

·       Appreciates autonomy, while still wanting strong support and structure

·       Wants a more dynamic, varied and sustainable role than a regular role in private practice can offer

What you'll bring

·       Registration as a Behaviour Support Practitioner with the NDIS Quality & Safeguards Commission with a minimum of 2 years experience

·       Registered Psychologist or Provisional Psychologist with AHPRA Psychology Board

·       Strong communication and plan writing skills

·       Team spirit and desire to be part of a vibrant and highly collaborative team culture

·       A growth mindset and commitment to continued personal and professional development

·       An understanding of trauma-informed and neuro-affirming approaches

About JOURNEY

At JOURNEY, we bring together Positive Behaviour Support, Psychology and Occupational Therapy to support people whose needs don’t fit neatly into one box. Our work sits in the space where mental health, disability, behaviour and everyday life intersect and where real, meaningful change happens. We get complexity and know how to work with individuals, families and systems to create opportunities and achieve real change.

We work alongside adults and adolescents across Melbourne, supporting autistic individuals and people living with mental health challenges or intellectual disability to create better lives. Our approach is different by design. Rather than siloed services or “next available clinician” models, we match clients with the right practitioner and build a coordinated team around them. This means our practitioners aren’t working in isolation, they’re part of something bigger, with shared thinking, shared responsibility, and better outcomes. ?Our work is seriously interesting and seriously rewarding. We love what we do and have the leadership, skills and drive to ensure all of our clients and our team achieve their greatest potential.

Thinking about joining JOURNEY? We know this is a big decision and we want you to get a real feel for us. You're welcome to visit the clinic, grab a coffee with the team, or chat with current practitioners.
