About the Role
We are passionate about people and it is with pleasure that we announce an exciting new opportunity for 2 positions at 0.8 FTE for 3 year fixed term employment. The Psychology Placement Coordinator/s are responsible for coordinating and delivering internship placements for provisional psychologists under the Addressing Critical Psychology Shortages – Supporting Provisional Psychologists to Practice (Extension) initiative.
The role supports the implementation of one-year internships within the 5+1 psychology training pathway, contributing to improved workforce supply, reduced barriers to internship participation, and strengthened access to psychology services nationally.
The primary responsibilities include:
Placement Coordination and Delivery
- Coordinate the end-to-end internship lifecycle for provisional psychologists
- Match interns with suitable employers and supervisors
- Support employers and supervisors to establish work placements
Priority Cohorts and Workforce Need
Implement processes that ensure priority allocation of internships to:
- First Nations peoples
- Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities
- Regional, rural and remote locations (MMM 3–7).
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain effective relationships with psychology practices, supervisors, education providers, and community-based service organisations (employers).
- Act as a primary point of contact for interns and stakeholders, providing guidance, information, and timely support throughout placement delivery.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Monitor placement progress, identify risks and/or issues, and work collaboratively to implement solutions.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and systems related to placements, eligibility, and participation.
Reporting and Program Support
- Assist with broader program delivery tasks aligned with APS workforce initiatives and the National Mental Health Workforce Strategy.
We work in a hybrid model. Most team members currently work from home, with the option to work in our Melbourne CBD office when it suits them, or as the business requires (ie for large planning meetings).
We have staff in most states and territories, and you don’t need to be Melbourne-based to be successful in this role.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are recruiting for two positions – seeking motivated candidates with the skills and initiative to build and maintain relationships with interns, supervisors, higher education providers, and employers essential to the delivery of this program.
Other key selection criteria includes:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology and current registration with Ahpra as a psychologist
- Board-approved supervisor
- Demonstrated experience in placement coordination, workforce programs, internships, or health, education, or community sector administration.
- Knowledge of psychology education and training pathways, including the 5+1 pathway.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines coupled with proven administrative capability, including recordkeeping and data management.
- Excellent networking and communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to effectively represent the APS, collaborate effectively with others and coherently present ideas.
- Personable, warm, and friendly demeanour coupled with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive self-starter with a strong sense of initiative and responsibility
- Understanding of equity-focused program delivery and culturally safe practice.
- Ability to interpret and apply guidelines, policies, and procedural requirements.
