Forensic psychology with depth, supervision, research and a lifestyle worth the move. $5-$10K incentives offered
This is not a generic hospital psychology role.
This is a rare opportunity to step into specialist forensic mental health practice at Bloomfield Hospital in Orange, working within the Macquarie Medium Secure Unit and alongside the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network.
Following the retirement of the previous Senior Clinical Psychologist, we are looking for a Forensic Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist or Registrar ready to work with adults experiencing severe mental illness and/or offending behaviour in a complex, clinically rich forensic setting.
If you are looking for a role that combines assessment, formulation, intervention, research, supervision and real forensic specialisation — this is one to look at.
About the role
In this role, you will provide high-quality, evidence-informed psychological services for forensic patients within the Macquarie Medium Secure Unit.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support assessment, diagnosis, case formulation and treatment planning for adults with complex mental health and offence-related needs. The role includes individual assessment and intervention, psychometric assessment, psychological report writing and group-based interventions.
This is work that draws on your full clinical skillset. You will contribute to multimodal psychological assessment, risk assessment, functional analysis, behavioural interventions and structured treatment approaches that support patient care and transition planning.
You will also work closely with the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network, external agencies and statutory bodies, giving the role strong professional reach beyond a single inpatient unit.
Why this role stands out
This role gives you access to the kind of forensic experience that can be hard to build in generalist settings.
You will be part of a team of 13 psychologists at Bloomfield, while also connecting into the broader NSW forensic mental health network. That gives you the benefit of local team support, professional connection and access to experienced colleagues working in similar areas of practice.
The role also offers strong professional development and clinical growth, including:
-
Full internal supervision, including supervision for Registrars
-
Opportunity to work toward or strengthen an Area of Practice Endorsement
-
Access to a full psychometric test library, including online testing
-
Current books, resources and information access
-
Professional development support with peak organisations
-
Flexible work practices within the working environment
-
Opportunities to contribute to research and quality improvement
Previous research within the service has included work on violence reduction, and the current team is involved with King’s College London in a cognitive remediation program.
A role for psychologists who want a specialty practice
For experienced clinicians, the attraction is the depth of the work.
This is forensic psychology where you are not just completing assessments in isolation. You are part of a treatment system — contributing to formulation, intervention, risk understanding, behavioural planning, psychological reporting and multidisciplinary decision-making.
For Registrars or psychologists working toward endorsement, the appeal is just as strong: you will be supported with supervision, specialist exposure, access to resources and the chance to build capability in a highly specialised forensic mental health environment.
About you
Applications are invited from Psychologists with an Area of Practice Endorsement, or those working towards endorsement, in Forensic, Clinical or Neuropsychology fields.
You may be a Senior Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Forensic Psychologist, Neuropsychologist or Registrar with an interest in complex mental health, offending behaviour and forensic practice.
You will bring strong assessment, formulation, communication and report-writing skills, along with a commitment to ethical, evidence-based psychological practice. Experience or interest in severe mental illness, offence-related treatment, risk assessment and forensic mental health will be highly valued.
