Monash Health Acute Neuropsychology is recruiting for a skilled and passionate Grade 2 Neuropsychologist to join our dynamic and innovative team. This is a permanent, part-time position that services inpatient and outpatient clinics.

About the Role 
Join our team as a Grade 2 Clinical Neuropsychologist on a permanent part time basis (two days per week). The position is responsible for the provision of a responsive, evidence-based neuropsychology service for adult inpatient and outpatients at Monash Health (excluding mental health programs). The service also collaborates closely with and provides secondary consultation to various teams and other stakeholders regarding the formulation, treatment and management of patients with complex neurological and cognitive-behavioural clinical presentations (e.g. combined medical, physical, mental health and/or neurocognitive disorders). Inpatient referrals are accepted from all acute wards (except mental health). Referrals sources for outpatient appointments are wide ranging, but are predominantly received from the specialist clinics run by Monash Health Neurosciences. The position may provide mentoring to psychology students on placement, as well as professional development opportunities to psychology staff, students and/or registrars. This role is based at Monash Medical Centre but, occasional travel to, and work from, other Monash Health sites may be required. 
 
About Us - Acute Neuropsychology Unit 
The Neuropsychology Unit falls under the Psychology and Specialist Services Program of Monash Health.The Neuropsychology Unit provides: 
  • Inpatient consultation for acute adult services (medical, oncology, cardiac and surgical units) to support discharge planning and progression of care across all Monash Health acute sites 
  • An outpatient neuropsychology clinic for active Monash Health patients. Outpatient referral sources are wide ranging, but are predominantly received from Monash Neurology, which includes General Neurology, Cognitive, Stroke, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Deep Brain Stimulation, Multiple Sclerosis and Neuropsychiatry clinics. Other outpatient frequent referral sources include Neurosurgery, Rheumatology, Haematology, Oncology, Nephrology, Cardiology and Emergency Medicine.  
  • Oversight and leadership of the implementation of the Monash Health post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) in concussion/traumatic brain injury (TBI) procedure. This includes outpatient follow-up of mild TBI patients, in addition to education and training of staff about assessment and management of PTA. The Neuropsychology Unit works collaboratively with inpatient and outpatient Medical, Nursing and Allied Health staff to enhance patient outcomes.  
As a neuropsychologist within the unit, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and diagnosing patients with cognitive, emotional, and behavioural issues related to neurological conditions, as well as collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans to support discharge planning and progression of care. You will provide brief targeted inventions as well as psychoeducation to patients, families and multidisciplinary teams about neuropsychological conditions and rehabilitation options. You will be a team player and work closely with medical, nursing and allied health staff to ensure high quality patient care and outcomes.  

About You 
To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge: 
  • Knowledge and skills in the provision of evidence-based, best practice assessment and formulation in diagnostic neuropsychology  
  • Knowledge and skills in acute neuropsychology and inpatient service delivery, with particular emphasis on neurology, neurosurgery and decision making capacity assessments 
  • Ability to provide targeted, brief cognitive interventions 
  • Ability to be professional in the provision of psychological services 
  • Ability to function independently and collaboratively with evidence of good interpersonal skills and experience working effectively in multidisciplinary teams  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to maintain effective clinical documentation, records and data 
  • Research and evaluation skills 
  • Computer literacy 
  • Commitment to professional development  
  • A broad understanding of the Victorian health system 
  • A working knowledge and understanding of current relevant legislation and professional guidelines (eg. AHPRA registration requirements, Guardianship and Administration Act, Mental Health and Wellbeing Act, the AHPRA adopted Code of Ethics) 
What you need: 
  • You hold current full general registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Authority (AHPRA)  
  • You have appropriate post-graduate qualifications (Masters or Doctoral Degree) in Neuropsychology in an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited course 
  • You hold Endorsement in Neuropsychology with AHPRA or are eligible to work toward obtaining endorsement through undertaking the Registrar program
