Hospital in the Home provides an alternative to an inpatient hospital admission, which allows Mental Health Services to offer a more person-centred option to voluntary admission for mental health consumers. HITH acts as a step between inpatient hospital admission and community care where the intensity and type of care provided in an admitted service is offered but allows for greater flexibility to meet the patient’s preferences and facilitates maintenance of supports and links within the community.
