The Macleay Vocational College (MVC) is an independent Special Assistance
School, supporting students in Years 9–12, located on Dhungutti Country in the
Macleay Valley. We provide a flexible, inclusive, culturally appropriate and
trauma-informed learning environment for young people who have faced barriers
to mainstream education.
Macleay Vocational College is seeking an experienced and
dedicated School Psychologist to join our supportive and dynamic team.?The successful applicant will
work collaboratively with staff, students, and families to deliver high-quality
psychological support, and testing, contributing to the wellbeing and
educational success of our students. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a

The?School
Psychologist?will:
- Collaboratively
design and implement programs with a strong focus on prevention and early
intervention.
- Respond
effectively to students’ personal, social, emotional, and educational
needs.
- Foster
resilience, emotional wellbeing, and personal growth.
- Contribute
to comprehensive student support programs aligned with the evolving needs
of the school community, in consultation with the Principal and Wellbeing
Team.
The school psychologist will be responsible for
communicating relevant student information to the Principal, Wellbeing
Coordinator, and Curriculum Coordinator—particularly concerning safety,
psychological conditions, social conflict, or any significant factor impacting
learning and wellbeing.
The School Psychologist must also participate in
professional supervision and development in accordance with the requirements of
the?Australian Health
Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Accountability
The School Psychologist reports directly to the?Principal?and works closely with the wellbeing and leadership
teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct
psycho-educational assessments and provide individualised recommendations
to students, parents, and staff.
- Offer
short-term counselling to support students facing academic, social, or
emotional challenges.
- Work
as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop effective partnerships with
staff, families, and external agencies.
- Refer
students (for external psychological or medical support as needed) to
external services as required.
- Communicate
relevant student information to appropriate school personnel to ensure
coordinated support.
- Conduct
observations and assessments to inform tailored learning interventions and
educational planning.
- Assist
with disability funding applications in collaboration with staff and
external professionals.
- Provide
information to support the development of Individual Learning Plans.
- Maintain
confidential records and practice in line with the Australian
Psychological Society (APS) Code of Ethics.
- Participate
in and contribute to professional learning and provide training for staff
as needed.
Additional Duties
Testing Services
- Administer
psychological and educational assessments to support learning and
behavioural planning.
Counselling Services
- Provide
short-term counselling for school-related issues.
- Refer
students to external services when appropriate.
- Consult
with staff regarding students' psychological needs.
Community Engagement
- Develop
and facilitate identified workshops and wellbeing initiatives for students
and staff.
Administration
- Maintain
comprehensive and confidential records.
- Prepare
formal reports and communicate outcomes with relevant team members.
- Provide
regular updates to the wellbeing team and leadership.
Pastoral Care
- Work
with advisory staff and leadership on unresolved or complex student
issues.
- Proactively
communicate concerns in writing to appropriate staff.
- Offer
guidance on therapeutic best practices and wellbeing programs.
Essential Skills and Qualities
The successful applicant must demonstrate:
- Strong
expertise in psycho-educational assessment.
- Current
knowledge of trauma informed counselling practices and psychological
interventions.
- Proven
ability to develop and implement behavioural support strategies.
- Excellent
communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Commitment
to ethical, evidence-based practice.
