Under the newly developed Rehabilitation and Reintegration (R&R) Framework the Clinical Rehabilitation team requires psychologists to support the existing team of psychologists, social workers and Aboriginal Program Facilitators to deliver offence related intensive treatment programs.  There are opportunities to support the development of new intensive programs within both the men’s and women’s spaces within the prison system.  This is an opportunity to develop your clinical skills as a psychologist within a correctional setting.

As a Lead Clinician in the Clinical Rehabilitation unit in Darwin Correctional Centre, your primary objective is to conduct comprehensive criminogenic risk and needs assessments and deliver individual and group intervention to prisoners in the custody of DOC.  Lead Clinicians also provide professional input into appropriate management, treatment plans and Parole Board reports as required; as well as providing input into the development, delivery and evaluation of treatment programs and provide peer consultation, supervision, training and professional support to colleagues.

Your key duties will comprise of, undertaking assessments and delivering group and individual treatment to address criminogenic risk. Alongside addressing the psychological needs of offenders and generating psychological and risk assessment reports.  In addition, you will liaise and consult with internal and external stakeholders on issues relevant to the management of offenders to ensure coordinated case management; provide advice and support for professional and administrative stream staff within the team; and be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team.

To be successful you require tertiary qualifications in psychology with unconditional registration to practice as a psychologist or tertiary qualifications in social work with membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers; demonstrated experience in the administration and interpretation of a range of clinical and forensic assessment tools; knowledge of current best-practice trends in offender assessment and rehabilitation; and experience in the delivery of group and individual interventions.  High standard of communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability interact effectively with people from diverse cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds is essential.

In return you will be rewarded with a competitive salary package including 6 weeks recreational and 3 weeks personal leave, 17.5% annual leave loading, negotiable flexible work arrangements, supervision, and an opportunity to experience the uniqueness of living in the Northern Territory.

If you reside interstate, this a great time to consider moving to the Territory and experiencing the uniqueness of living and working in Darwin. Enjoy an enviable lifestyle and a work life balance that allows you time to explore the stunning landscapes, tropical sunsets and spectacular lightening displays. Darwin’s rich multicultural society and community spirit makes it a great place to live, work and play.
