Opportunity to build a practice you believe in

Psychologist – Independent Private Practice

About the opportunity

Melbourne Psychology & Counselling (MPC) is seeking 1–2 psychologists to join our established community practice in Coburg.

This is an opportunity to build independent private practice within a warm, professionally engaged community with strong referral support, excellent administrative infrastructure, and genuine collegial connection.

We are particularly seeking psychologists with experience working with children, adolescents, and families. Clinicians with experience in neuroaffirming practice, trauma, OCD, or eating disorders are also strongly encouraged to apply. Psychologists with broad adult presentations are welcome.

About MPC

Founded in 2016 by Dr Claire Ahern and Dr Christine Raab, MPC is a community practice built on the belief that good therapy requires sustainable ways of working. Psychologists at MPC practise independently, while accessing practice support services that reduce administrative burden and keep the focus on clinical work.

Many psychologists remain at MPC for years. We think that says something.

We value:

  • Warm, evidence-based care for our diverse northern suburbs community

  • Genuine collegiality, professional respect, and shared learning

  • The wellbeing and sustainability of psychologists themselves

What MPC offers

  • Consistent, well-matched referrals from GPs, psychiatrists, schools, and community services

  • Comfortable consulting rooms in Coburg

  • Intake coordination with careful client matching — our intake process is a genuine point of difference

  • Reception and administrative support

  • Practice management systems and operational support

  • Active interest and learning groups in OCD, trauma, neuroaffirming practice, eating disorders, and EMDR

Your autonomy

You retain full control over:

  • Your therapeutic approach and clinical decision-making

  • The presentations and areas of practice you develop

  • Your hours, availability, fee structure, and caseload size

A minimum of 2–3 shifts per week (3–4 sessions per shift) is required. Some evening or weekend availability is welcomed.

Early career psychologists

Psychologists newer to private practice are welcome. Both Directors are board-approved supervisors and provide mentoring and support for clinicians establishing themselves. External group supervision is also available.

What we're looking for

  • Full AHPRA registration and current professional indemnity insurance

  • Eligible for Medicare provider status

  • Clear and professional communication with referrers and clients

  • Able to work autonomously while genuinely valuing collegial connection

  • Thoughtful, engaged, and committed to ongoing professional development

  • Experience working with diverse presentations

  • Experience with children, adolescents, and families, OCD, and trauma will be highly regarded.
