ABOUT THE ROLE

 

PosAbility Australia is seeking a passionate and skilled Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team, with a primary focus on assessment and intervention for children with learning difficulties and developmental delays. This is a rare opportunity to do genuinely meaningful clinical work in a not-for-profit organisation wholly dedicated to children's learning, wellbeing and development.

You will work with children from pre-school through to high school, conducting comprehensive psychological and educational assessments and delivering evidence-based intervention programs. Your caseload will be varied and clinically rich — with the freedom to shape your practice around your areas of deepest interest and expertise.


 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Assessment

    Administer and score cognitive, academic and other standardised assessments

    Conduct diagnostic assessments for Specific Learning Disorders (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia), ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder

    Undertake school-based and preschool observations to support diagnostic formulation

    Write clear, comprehensive and evidence-based psychological reports

    Provide feedback to children, families and schools, translating complex findings into practical guidance

 

Intervention & Therapy

    Deliver evidence-based individual and group intervention programs targeting executive functioning, literacy, numeracy, organisation and study skills

    Provide counselling support for children, adolescents and families navigating the emotional impact of learning difficulties

    Design and implement targeted literacy and/or numeracy programs for students significantly behind expected levels

    Apply positive behavioural strategies to motivate and engage students with complex profiles

 

Collaboration & Development

    Work alongside a caring, multidisciplinary team of psychologists, educators and allied health professionals

    Participate in peer supervision, case consultation and internal training

    Support families in advocating for their children at school and within the community

    Contribute to group program development, including content design and coordination

    Participate in PosAbility's Outreach Program, extending services to rural and regional communities

ABOUT YOU — ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

 

    Full registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA

    Demonstrated experience administering cognitive, academic and other standardised assessments

    Experience in psychological assessment and diagnosis of Specific Learning Disorders, ADHD and/or Autism

    Experience providing counselling to children, adolescents and/or families

    Strong report writing skills — clear, accessible and clinically rigorous

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    Genuine interest in and commitment to the field of learning difficulties and child development

    Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

 

    Endorsement as an Educational & Developmental or Clinical Psychologist

    Board Approved Supervisor status

    Experience supervising Psychologists or leading allied health teams

    Background in education (e.g. teacher, school counsellor, teaching assistant)

    Familiarity with evidence-based literacy and numeracy intervention programs

    Experience in group therapy design and delivery

    Valid Australian Driver's Licence
